Do you ever feel “different”? Do you ever feel like you just don’t fit in? Life brings trials and, at times, we can feel lonely and short on hope. Susan Rose wrote this short poem in one of those hours of sorrow and lament.

“Different”

By Susan Rose

Why do I have to be different, Lord?

Why do I have to be me? –

The dandelion of the field,

The unbelonging garden weed?

Why do I have to be different, Lord?

Why do I have to be me? –

The lonesome dove without a flock,

The animal unfit to breed?

Why do I have to be different, Lord?

Why do I have to be me? –

The lioness without a pride

and no cubs of her own to feed?

Why do I have to be different, Lord?

Why do I have to be me? –

The fragile lily without bloom;

Of what good is this little seed?

Why do I have to be different, Lord?

Why do I have to be me? –

Tired and weary and worn am I;

Lord, Your strength I long for and need.

Why do I have to be different, Lord?

Why do I have to be me?
